        <description><![CDATA[Miguel Tejada is a shortstop for the Houston Astros. He was traded from the Baltimore Orioles to Houston in December 2007 in exchange for five players.<br>                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Tejada was named the Most Valuable Player in the American League in 2002, when he was a member of the Oakland Athletics, and following the 2003 season, he signed a six-year, $72 million deal with the Orioles.<br>                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                In his first season in Baltimore, Tejada batted .311 with a team-best 34 home runs, and he set an Orioles record with 150 RBI, which led the majors. Tejada finished fifth in the AL MVP voting that year.<br>                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                A four-time All-Star, Tejada played in 1,152 consecutive games, the fifth-longest streak in Major League history, before a broken wrist knocked him out of the Baltimore lineup on June 22, 2007.<br>                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Tejada has been linked to steroid use during his career, and he was named in the Mitchell Report in December 2007 just days after he was traded to Houston. Tejada has denied using performance-enhancing drugs, but Congress has asked the Justice Department to investigate whether Tejada lied to a House committee in 2005 when he was interviewed in connection with the Rafael Palmeiro steroids case.<br>                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Tejada was born in Bani, Dominican Republic on May 25, 1976. He was signed by Hall of Fame pitcher and Oakland Athletics scout Juan Marichal in 1993, when he was just 17.
